Make-A-Wish
Effective October 1st 2010, Rob’s Drywall Services Ltd. began donating a portion of the proceeds from each and every job done to the Children’s Wish Foundation, now merged into Make-A-Wish. We have always been very passionate about this charity and are very proud to be associated with an organization that does so much to enhance the lives of families with terminally ill children. If you are unfamiliar please read below or feel free to click on the logo and open a link to their site. Since 2010 we have had quite the journey. In its first year the program we established raised just under $6,000.00 for the charity. We have continued to see this annual donation grow almost every year as the business has grown. We reached our initial goal of contributing enough to grant a wish on our own in 2013 (a wish is approximately $10,000), and in 2024 completed our largest donation to date totaling just over $40,000.00! We hope you are as excited as we are to watch the donated to-date number grow!
The Organization
Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life.
Last year in Southern Alberta we granted 130 wishes. Wishes from meeting their favorite celebrity, a family trip to the sunshine state, the most epic gaming set-up, to I wish to give back to our community – the wishes we grant are as unique as the children who make them.
Right now, there are over 186 children with critical illnesses currently waiting for a wish in our community. With a child being diagnosed with a critical illness every two hours, this number continues to grow.
We believe a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have a wish granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight their illness.
Through all the uncertainty, one thing has remained constant: every child’s wish begins with hope. When a wish child has something positive to look forward to, everything begins to change. Be part of the hope and help transform lives, one wish at a time.
Magic of A Wish
Once a child is referred to Make-a-Wish and the case medically approved, the child is asked to make an important decision. What would bring him or her greatest happiness? For many children, the process of narrowing down the possibilities to one wish can be the most exciting part of the wish experience. They can choose literally any wish imaginable, without regard to cost or logistics, provided their health and safety is not jeopardized.
For a child whose wish is about to be granted, the pain and discomfort of the illness and often harsh treatment regimens somehow become more bearable. The excitement of planning and anticipating their dream has a dramatic effect on the healing of many children. These courageous youngsters often experience a renewed sense of energy and hope as they see a different kind of light at the end of the tunnel.
A wish is a temporary relief and much-needed distraction from the endless procession of doctor’s visits, tests, reports, treatments and hospital stays.
A wish is about precious time with family — planning, enjoying or reflecting on the special magic of the moments.
As more children survive life-threatening illnesses, a wish can also be about memories, pictures and videos the family will treasure for a lifetime, sometimes in the absence of the child.
